As for assembly, please make sure that you have removed the "black protective hard cap/cover" from the silver cylinder! This step is not documented in the product's manual, but if you don't do it you'll simply be able to use the bar stool without the ability to raise or lower it using the handle. Also, removing that black may be challenging, so make sure you protect your arms/face if you are using a screwdriver like I did. Compared to other affordable bar stool, it's well worth the little pain... :)
